Key To Personal Branding
If you’re reading this, I’m sure your desire to build a personal brand is very strong.
It’s what launches you out of bed in the mornings, and keeps you working late into the night. You dream of how big your audience could be, and what sort of lifestyle this can create for you and your loved ones.
But first you need to ask yourself these two questions; what exactly do you have to say? And is it something that other people want to hear?
Within the confines of the information amusement park we call the internet – what is it that people are looking for?
The answer is simple – they’re looking for something real.
Consumers, readers and even casual observers are savvier now than ever before. If you don’t have a genuine approach, the BS alarm will sound off lighting-fast. Don’t ask people to follow you or bug them to buy something – offer them something so good that they can’t turn it down.
Think about famous people on the internet with strong personal brands. I don’t even need to mention names – I’m sure you’ve already got two or three in your head. Now think about what they all have in common. They all provide mountains of free content – and give away far more value than they ever receive in return.
You’re reading their blogs, listening to their podcasts and watching them on Youtube. And I’ll bet that in most cases you’re not paying a cent for the pleasure. Over time you may finally buy a book, subscribe to paid content or buy a ticket to see them in person – culminating the mutually beneficial relationship.
Building a strong personal brand is tough. Building a successful personal brand takes a near superhuman effort – day in and day out. You need to be knowledgeable. You need to be passionate almost to the point of obsession. You need to enjoy – actually no, that’s not enough – love what you’re doing. And most of all – you need to be you.
If you’re a life coach – talk to your readers like they’re close friends. Show them without a doubt that you really care about making their lives better. If you’re a marketing guru, put out content that’s so good your readers won’t be able to resist sharing it with everyone they know. And perhaps most importantly – give this content away for free.
As your following grows and your reputation builds, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to convert loyal followers into paying customers. And what’s more, they’ll be more than happy to do it. Revenue generating activities should be a natural extension of the value you’re already creating – not a precursor to it.
Speaking from the heart and living your passion will not only lead to genuine success; it will create the lifestyle you spent last night dreaming about.
